Why did facebook take this asshat decision to have the users fight it out for urls?

A simple way would have been to assign urls to people based on their account name  this way you would not lose access to your url even if it wasn’t the perfect one..

Then users could decide to shorten or change it as long as the new name didnt conflict with someone else….

So dam stupid….

Probably why I will never make a Facebook or Friendster or myspace account…

The people are just nuts.
