Google is trying to make a deal with publishers and representatives that would allow it to continue its online search of out of publish books online.

Unfortunately even if the deal does get accepted the Justice Department may decide to not allow it.

Various groups have complained and an antitrust investigation has started.

At this point the Authors Guild and American Publishers Association have been notified along with google that an inquery has started.

Critics say that once the deal goes through Google will have rights to millions of books whos authors and or heirs can not be found. On the other hand who would be there to defend rights or claim ownership if the books were not displayed online.
